Florida features more striking contrasts than any other state in the USA. Some people go there in search of quiet retirement, others seeking fun and lively nightlife and still others to work in the vibrant financial and business hub that the state has become. Whatever the reason for going there, one can enjoy not only the pleasant climate but also an extensive range of shopping with fashion as one of its mainstays. Fashion in Florida is not limited exclusively to Miami: shopping malls and fashion stores can be found scattered all over the state.
Let us begin with the State’s main focal point for fun and leisure: Miami. The fashion stores of South Beach are characterised by their canny combination of informal style and top brand names. Along Collins Avenue, which runs parallel to that showcase for beautiful people Ocean Drive, shoppers can find multi-brand stores such as Scoop, Barneys Co-op and Intermix. The characteristic Art Deco style of the city can clearly be seen in all these stores, as it can in Diesel. Another refined, unusual spot worthy of mention is named after the creative director of Bottega Veneta, Tomas Maier. In the store that bears his name the Italian firm’s products can be found side by side with his own brand designs and products by such other prestigious designers as Lanvin and a careful selection of fashion accessories and books, making the store a must.
Close to Miami, all the luxury of fashion can be found at Bal Harbour. Just a couple of kilometres north of Miami Beach, the area is home to a luxury shopping centre called Bal Harbour Shops where all the top fashion names can be found: Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel, Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana, among others, all have points of sale there for their collections and accessories. As well as the stores in the shopping centre itself the area also boasts such large department stores as Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue, which exemplify its elegance and its commercial vibrancy in terms of high fashion goods. Coral Gables is another hotspot for clothes shopping in Florida. An elegant shopping park known as Village of Merrick Park features stores by such significant brands as Burberry, Jimmy Choo, Roberto Cavalli and Etro, in a setting ideal for shopping and strolling.
Finally, no description of fashion and luxury in Florida would be complete without a mention of Palm Beach. The fine architecture of the city enables stores such as Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue to establish themselves in beautiful, Spanish colonial style buildings on the city's streets. Alongside other significant brands such as Hermès, Polo Ralph Lauren and Salvatore Ferragamo among many others have their own stories side-by-side with luxurious jewellery stores. |
